New Berlin West stays on Pewaukee's heels in Woodland

WAUWATOSA - Junior right fielder Tony Smith broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth inning with a solo homer and New Berlin West went on to beat Wauwatosa West 8-5 in a Woodland Conference game.

The victory allowed the Vikings, 14-4 in league and 23-4 overall, to remain a half-game behind North Division leader Pewaukee.

The two teams face each other in a doubleheader at Waukesha County Technical College on Friday.

Sophomore Jesse Riehle pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to gain the victory.

Senior left fielder Robbie Geurtsen had three of New Berlin's 11 hits in the game and scored the tying run in the seventh inning on a single by junior catcher Paul Marx after he led off with a double.

Freshman catcher Bryan Thiessenhuesen also had an RBI in the eighth inning and senior second baseman Kyle Kalkopf stole home for the other run.

Muskego rallies to beat South Division leader

MUSKEGO - Six straight batters reached base safely and Muskego rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Greater Metro Conference South Division leader Oak Creek 4-3.

The Warriors' rally began as sophomore catcher Nick McCormack singled. Senior first baseman Kyle Troeger was hit by a pitch, junior pinch-hitter Jeremy Simono had a bunt hit, senior third baseman Scott Lau hit into a fielder's choice that went for an error with two runs scoring, junior center fielder Matt Petritis singled and senior right fielder Andrew Michlig singled home the winning run.

Junior T.J. Kotnik, in what coach Mike Schramek termed his best outing of the season, allowed only four hits as Oak Creek dropped to 13-3 in league and 20-7 overall while Muskego improved to 6-11 in conference and 10-15 overall.

Leachy delivers big hit for Lancers

BROOKFIELD - Junior third baseman Ricky Leachy hit a two-run double with two-outs in the top of the seventh to give Brookfield Central a 5-4 lead and the Lancers held on to defeat Marquette in a Greater Metro Conference game Tuesday.

Leachy's towering drive to left field scored senior pitcher Lee Severson and senior shortstop Mike Bogard, who both were hit by pitches to start the inning.

Severson pitched the final two innings for the victory and Central improved to 20-10 overall and 11-6 in conference.

The Hilltoppers dropped to 18-9 overall and 12-5 in conference.
