Senior Bo Richter from Waukesha South, a three-year letterman, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville team that is ranked No. 7 by D3hoops.com and No. 8 in the Sporting News preseason rankings. Field Hockey Trinity sophomore Payden Sra from Pewaukee has 21 saves (.875 save percentage) and three goals allowed (0.50 GAA) in 421 minutes. Her save and goals-against averages both rank first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The team, 12-4, advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time in school history and was awarded an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament. Football St. Cloud senior Cale Pulczinski from Mukwonago has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference defensive Player of the Year. Pulczinski finished the 2008 season with 36 tackles, including 22 solo stops. He led the Huskies with 12 tackles for loss and eight quarterback sacks. He also blocked two kicks, forced a fumble and was credited with five quarterback hurries. Pulczinski set a school single-game record for quarterback sacks with 4.5 against Northern State. Three times during the season he had six tackles and he collected at least a half a tackle for a loss in nine games. The three-year starter ranks third on St. Cloud's career sack chart with 21.0 and is fifth all-time on the tackles for loss chart with 34.5. Carroll sophomore defensive back Nick Swartz from Rockton, Ill., was the Midwest Conference's special teams Player of the Week following the Pioneers' 27-12 victory over Lake Forest last week. Swartz blocked two kicks - an extra point and a field goal - and returned two kickoffs for 27 yards. Swartz also finished the game with four tackles. UW-River Falls junior returner Ben Arata from Menomonee Falls was nominated for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference special teams Player of the Week award. Arata came up with two big interceptions in the team's 7-0 loss at UW-Platteville. He also had two solo and three total tackles. Arata, who has started every game, leads the team with 42 solo and 55 total tackles. He has one tackle for loss, three interceptions, which leads the team, and two pass breakups. Wrestling UW-Oshkosh freshman Jason Laplante from New Berlin West was nominated for Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors. Laplante pinned his opponent at 285 pounds as UW-Oshkosh opened its 2008-09 season with a 26-16 victory over Harper College, Ill., last week. Also posting a victory for the Titans was junior James Dederich from Menomonee Falls at 165 pounds.
