UW-Waukesha men's basketball team wins

SHEBOYGAN - Freshman Wes Brown, a Waukesha South High School graduate, led the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha men's basketball team with 24 points en route to a 76-62 victory over UW-Sheboygan on Monday.

The Cougars jumped out to a 42-23 halftime lead.

Sophomore David Rogers from Waukesha West High School added 20 points and six assists. Sophomore Mike Albert from Muskego finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Cougars, 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference, committed just nine fouls compared to Sheboygan's 23.


Carroll women's basketball team falls

SHEBOYGAN - The Carroll University women's basketball team fell to Lakeland 79-75 in a nonconference game Monday.

The Pioneers had a 42-29 halftime lead, but Lakeland scored 50 second-half points to walk away with the victory.

Lakeland outshot Carroll 63 percent to 36 percent in the second half, including 57 percent from behind the arc.

Freshman guard/forward Karen Hoewisch from Hortonville led Carroll with 19 points, while sophomore guard Lyndsey Seewald from Coleman added 17 points and six rebounds.

Freshman forward Janelle Groer from Pewaukee had 14 points and six rebounds for the 1-1 Pioneers.


Marquette women win

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Jessica Pachko scored 14 points to lead Marquette to a 77-55 victory over Sacred Heart in women's college basketball Monday night.

Lauren Thomas-Johnson added 13 points for the Golden Eagles (2-0), who charged to a 41-28 halftime lead on the way to the victory. No other Marquette players scored in double figures.


UW women lose opener

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - Macie Michelson and Stacie Oistad scored 11 points each to lead South Dakota State to a 64-44 women's basketball victory over Wisconsin, spoiling the Badgers' season opener Monday night.

The Badgers were held to 34 percent shooting for the game. Alyssa Karel with 11 points was the only Wisconsin player in double figures.
